Earth Hour 2009: Turn Those Lights Off

Earth Hour started in Sydney in 2007 when 2.2 million homes and businesses turn off the lamp for one hour. There are 1508 large and small cities in 80 countries participated.

Earth Hour in 2008 developed into a sustainable global movement with 50 million people turn off the lights. Global Landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboards in Times Square all stood in darkness.

Earth Hour 2009 targets 1 billion people turn off their lights as part of a global voice. This campaign is different from the political campaigns that full of money politic. Some volunteers of Earth Hour programme even ask permission to reproduce brochures, banners and posters on the cost of their own!

More than 74 countries and territories they have pledged to support VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this amount increased everyday. We all have a voice, and every vote is counted. Together we can control the future of our planet, for generations to come.
