Earth Hour started in Sydney in 2007 when 2.2 million homes and businesses turn off the lamp for one hour. Earth Hour is a WWF initiative to invite individuals, businesses, governments and communities to turn off the lights for an hour as the action in support of climate change. There are 1508 large and small cities in 80 countries participated.
Earth Hour in 2008 developed into a sustainable global movement with 50 million people turn off the lights. Global Landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboards in Times Square all stood in darkness.
Earth Hour 2009 targets 1 billion people turn off their lights as part of a global voice. This campaign is different from the political campaigns that full of money politic. Some volunteers of Earth Hour programme even ask permission to reproduce brochures, banners and posters on the cost of their own!
VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business and every community. A call to stand up and take control of the future of our planet. More than 74 countries and territories they have pledged to support VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this amount increased everyday. We all have a voice, and every vote is counted. Together we can control the future of our planet, for generations to come.
